In-situ anatomical and elemental response of aquatic macrophytes against nutrient enrichment in freshwater tropical lakes

چکیده

Abstract Nutrient enrichment in lakes due to municipal wastewater discharge and agricultural run-off leads excessive growth of algae aquatic macrophytes leading their altered trophic states. This paper presents the effect wastewater-induced nutrient on anatomical changes elemental profiling three common freshwater India’s Central Gangetic Plain. It is observed that with increase state, biomineral depositions are seen leaf anatomy macrophytes. Elemental variations free-floating ( Eichhornia crassipes ), submerged Hydrilla verticillata ) emergent Typha latifolia collected from different catchment characteristics state using EDS (Energy-Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy) spectra show increasing constituent also increases. The rhizome showed formation calcium oxalate crystals SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) images analysis. Among macrophytes, floating a greater number constituents as compared findings this study responses dependent both water quality lakes. In-situ based tolerance level against pollution load environmental changes. has important implications for understanding response mechanism changing which may help proper management ecosystem.

Aquatic macrophytes in the large, sub-tropical Itaipu Reservoir, Brazil.

In the last three decades, rapid assessment surveys have become an important approach for measuring aquatic ecosystem biodiversity. These methods can be used to detect anthropogenic impacts and recognize local or global species extinctions. We present a floristic survey of the aquatic macrophytes along the Brazilian margin of the Itaipu Reservoir conducted in 2008 and compare this with a floris...

Environmental Factors and Aquatic Macrophytes in the Littoral Zone of Regulated Lakes

Water level regulation for purposes of hydropower production has caused notable changes in the littoral zones of regulated lakes in northern Finland. Marked geomorphological changes have taken place in the lakes with a raised water level. Lowering of the ice cover during the winter has also caused rapid changes in the littoral. Changes in the environmental conditions and aquatic macrophyte comm...

Resource Availability and Spatial Heterogeneity Control Bacterial Community Response to Nutrient Enrichment in Lakes

The diversity and composition of ecological communities often co-vary with ecosystem productivity. However, the relative importance of productivity, or resource abundance, versus the spatial distribution of resources in shaping those ecological patterns is not well understood, particularly for the bacterial communities that underlie most important ecosystem functions. Increasing ecosystem produ...

Temporal variations in methane emissions from emergent aquatic macrophytes in two boreonemoral lakes

Methane (CH4) emissions via emergent aquatic macrophytes can contribute substantially to the global CH4 balance. We addressed temporal variability in CH4 flux by using the static chamber approach to quantify fluxes from plots dominated by two species considered to differ in flux transport mechanisms (Phragmites australis, Carex rostrata). Temporal variability in daily mean emissions from early ...
